Baccarat Rules – How to play

What is Baccarat?

Baccarat is the oldest of all games played in modern casinos. Records suggest the game may have been played as far back as the fifteenth century in France where it is sometime known as Punto Banco. There are just three bets to make and the game is often played for very high odds. In traditional casinos Baccarat tables are often kept separate from the rest of the casino in a Baccarat Pit. The Baccarat table is easy to recognize. It is often quite large and can have seating for as many as twelve people.

Baccarat is a card game played with a single deck of cards. The objective of the game is to predict which of the two hands (Banker or Player) that are about to be dealt will be closer to having a value of 9.

The Increase and Decrease buttons are used to adjust the size of your bet. The bet size can only be changed between games.

Use the Player button to place your bet on the Player’s hand.

Use the Banker button to place your bet on the Banker’s hand.

Use the Tie button if you think a Tie will be dealt next.

Playing the Game

Baccarat is played with a single standard deck of cards. Two hands of cards are dealt, one for the Player and one for the Banker. Each hand will contain either two or three cards. If the first two cards dealt to the Player or the Banker are equal to five (5) or less, then the respective hand will be dealt a third card.

The amount to be wagered on each game of Baccarat is displayed in the Amount Betor Bet box. This amount may be adjusted by clicking on the ‘Increase’ or ‘Decrease’ buttons. These buttons will increment or decrement the amount wagered.

Once the size of the wager has been determined you must decide which of three possible bets you wish to make before the cards are dealt. You can decide to bet on the Bankers hand winning, the Players hand winning or the possibility of a Tie. Clicking on the appropriately labelled buttons to place these bets. Once the bet has been placed the two hands will be dealt.

The winning hand will be the one whose value is closest to nine (9). The value of a hand is calculated by adding up the value of the cards. Aces have a value of 1. Face (picture) cards and tens (10s) have no value and do not contribute to the value of the hand. All other card values are treated as they appear i.e. 2=2, 3=3, 4=4 and so on.

If the value of a Baccarat hand exceeds 9 then the value of the hand is taken as the “unit” portion of the total. Thus, if a hand consists of an 8 of clubs and a 7 of diamonds the total for the hand would be 15. You would ignore the “tens” portion of that total, giving you a value of 5. Similarly if the total of the cards were 20 you would ignore the 2 (tens portion) giving you a hand value of 0.

Once the winning hand is determined the game is over. If the hand you bet on won you will be paid out according to the rules in the Payout Schedule section.

Baccarat Rules

Please take note of the following rules:

A 5% commission is taken when you bet on a winning Banker’s hand.

Face cards and 10s have no value in Baccarat.

A tie that you did not bet on pays back your ante.

Payout Schedule

If you have chosen the winning hand the payout will made according to this table:

The Banker Wins

 The Player Wins

A Tie Wins Twice the bet -5% commission on winnings for the House.

 Twice the bet

You win 8 times the bet.

If the hand that you chose to back wins, you are paid double your bet, unless you bet on a tie in which case the payout is eight (8) times the amount you bet. If you win when backing the Banker’s hand the House charges a small percentage.

If you have bet on a losing hand your Ante is lost. If the hands are tied and you have not bet on a Tie then your Ante will be returned.
